This was based on a photograph by Ken Zelinka and was done probably late '87 or early '88. I used some of my favorite old techniques here- breakdown into simple blocks of suggested form, a la the Zerograph, distortions of/ additions to the original image, the use of a couple of different tones of black ink, stacked lines and patterns to turn what could have been a simple black background into a field of implied shapes, etc. The original is drawn on the back of a record flat- basically the front cover of a record printed on an actual sized piece of cardboard. So of course in this scan it's had the edges cropped off.
